DESCRIPTION:Measuring distances in space \nDo we have to run the distance of a galaxy🏃\, throw a spacecraft to travel for hundreds of billions of kilometers🛰️ or use a light-year long ruler to measure the distances in space📏?\nWhat if I told you that scientists are able to measure the distances without the need of going to space?\nAnd young scientists like you can do it too? Right here in our home on planet Earth? \nFind out how we measure distances in space and how you can do it too in young astronomers group!

DESCRIPTION:What would happen if you got too close to a black hole? Would you be stretched like spaghetti? Would you ever escape? Are black holes gateways straight to hell? This month\, we’re diving into the most mysterious objects in the universe: Black holes! From stellar-mass monsters just a few kilometers across to supermassive giants that could swallow entire star systems\, each black hole is a universe of its own. Get ready to unravel their secrets\, from insane amounts of gravity to the point of no return! \nJust to note: If Earth were compressed into a black hole\, it would be the size of a marble\, and do you know black holes bigger than the solar system exist?

DESCRIPTION:Have you ever sat down on your balcony and gazed up at the skies and asked questions? Such as what happens if I get sucked into a black hole? Why are some stars red and some are blue? Is there life on any other planets? Why does Saturn have rings? Did you know that every star has its own story? \nCome and join us for a fun session where we will discover the answers! We will explore the myths one by one from our familiar Sun to mysterious galaxies far far away! And we will explore planets with an endless desert or a giant gas ball with beautiful rings. DESCRIPTION:This month the topic will be weather dependent. SUMMARY:Young Astronomers Group - April
DESCRIPTION:In this meeting\, Alex will recap some really fun astronomy facts and topics that we have covered over the past few months. Alex has checked stellarium and 7pm is already quite dark on Monday with the daylight saving changeover\, so he will bring out his telescope (Seestar S50) and observe celestial objects such as M42\, Omega Centauri and will ask the members for some cool ideas! BTW the weather is looking great on Monday! If clouds start to move in\, he will put on a Kahoot. \nBecause Seestar S50 requires software\, many kids need to install that software on their phone in order to see cool celestial objects. To solve this problem\, he will put a live stream on the projector from his device. See you all on monday!

SUMMARY:Young Astronomers March - Solving the Mysteries of Galaxies
DESCRIPTION:This month’s meeting will be solving mysteries of galaxies! \nSome questions are\, what are galaxies? Why are some of them S shaped and why do some of them look like eggs in space? What is this fuss about the Milky way’s collision with the Andromeda Galaxy? And joining us will debunk these questions! A cool activity of this meeting will be looking at live viewing of galaxies on the projector taken by online telescopes controlled by me and if we are lucky\, we might be able to also see some live views of nebulas! Note: It is possible that telescopes are offline due to bad weather in Chile. \nHope to see you there. \nAlex

SUMMARY:Young Astronomers Group November
DESCRIPTION:Young astronomers will identify the challenges of landing a lunar lander on the surface of a body without an atmosphere. In teams\, they will design\, build\, and improve a lunar lander model that can slow its descent using the downward thrust of a balloon. The teams can then take the designs home to improve them and share their modifications with the group for our final session in December! Bring your friends and family along. \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNāku iti noa\, nā \n \nCarolle Varughese
