Introduction to Astronomy October 2025

October 6 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The Vera C. Rubin Observatory

Charting the Changing Sky

Recently, with much media attention, the first images from the Vera C. Rubin Observatory were released to the press. Come along and learn what makes this telescope special and gets astronomers so excited about what it can do. Discover how its unique mirror design, in combination with the largest digital camera ever built, allows it to perform observations surveying the night sky like never before. Chris Benton will then discuss in depth its prime mission, the ten-year Legacy Survey of Space and Time, including the science it will perform, and how this will revolutionise our understanding of the Universe.
